IF

For the son is the father of Man:

IF
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing it and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired of waiting,
Or being lied upon don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream and not make dreams you master;
If you can think and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can make triumph and disaster
And treat the two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: Hold on!
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And which is more you’ll be a Man, my son!

A Favourite poem of mine

anonymous (17.7.03 01:38) This one takes my breath away because they are in the exact colours in my spectrum of “favourites”. The hint of a shimmering peacock blue and green weave in a heavy Kanjiveeram saree The orange and yellow highlights in a burning ember, embedded in a bottomless vortex of flames. Beams of divine light shining through. Hues of pink blending into yellow tinted spheres ( again !?! ) Are these colours from The Other Side ? Imagine they would be even more spectacular, but somehow I think you are giving us a hint here. Does the foetus in the cosy comfort of it’s mother’s womb breathe these colours ? ( But as adults we forget through the course of time. ) Probably does. I think that’s what this picture is ALL about. The possibilities of what might be. Is that why as adults we try to remember when we sleep all curled up in the foetal position ? Sigh … some people, such as yourself, I guess, simply have the gift to express it even in an imperfect perfect world. Now, don’t get a swollen head here : ) As a child, I remember rubbing my eyes and while still shut, wondered if it was His world : colourful dots and swirls in an indescribable, ethereal medium. Even if I tried it now, the unknown possibilities Out There seems like a faded memory. Thank you for a beautiful site, stimulating the grey cells for the last 2 days, while I have my morning cup of Lipton tea and forget to do anything else ... ugh! And, now there’s even a site meter - kyu?? To beam you back to Planet Earth, of course … tut, tut : ) Another yarn of gobbledygook from RR |

(17.7.03 02:06) Ola RR! Nice to have you back! Very deep and insightful comments! The site meter is of course to, in some manner, take a peek at those who peek. Not all, like you, leave comments! :P Naah, its just an experimentation which I'm doing along with Dina. Gald also to know that the grey cells are stimulated! The ability to express comes with the "Flow" and anybody is capable of generating it, I feel! So when do you start your own blog? |
